Music
  • The music faculty is made up of dedicated and passionate teaching artists who represent a cross-section of the musical world, bridging classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular forms. They develop strong relationships with students through one-on-one mentorship and collaboration in performance.
  • The department offers a music major in a liberal arts setting with a rigorous core foundation that combines classical theory, piano, and history with contemporary and jazz theory and improvisation. Students enjoy a diverse and intensive music education as well as a broad exposure to other academic disciplines.
  • The music faculty consistently garners regional, national, and international recognition. Several members of the department have long been principals with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. In 2014, the department’s composition specialist completed an opera that was commissioned and performed by American Opera Projects in New York City. In 2015, the department’s pianist performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and with the Filarmonica Piteşti in Bucharest, Romania.
  • Music majors and minors have many opportunities each semester to participate in public concerts on campus, as individual performers, as fellow performers with their instructors, and as members of larger groups, including College-Youth Symphony, Symphonic Band, College-Community Chorale, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Collegium Musicum, and Chamber Jazz ensembles.
