Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz,seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Development & Alumni Communications in the Office of Communication & Marketing. The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director of Communication in the Office of Communication & Marketing and will work collaboratively with a robust creative/editorial team, including colleagues with expertise in writing, photography, videography, web and print design and social media, to ensure that a broad portfolio of communication projects effectively serve our diverse audiences, especially those within our international community of 75,000+ alumni, donors and friends.

The Assistant Director will serve as an integral link between the Office of Communication & Marketing and the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, working to provide consultative expertise and support for efforts to cultivate partnerships to advance fundraising and alumni engagement goals in support of the University. This position will work directly and frequently with two assigned unit representatives in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, helping to coordinate a wide range of communication priorities in service of development and alumni relations goals.

Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
• As Magazine Editor, in coordination and consultation with Development & Alumni Relations, lead the project team responsible for the New Paltz Magazine
• Serve as the Communication & Marketing project lead for the monthly alumni e-newsletter
• Support the writing, editing and production (strategic direction to be set by the Executive Director of Development) of the annual summary report of the work of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation shared with donors and friends.
• In collaboration with Development staff and Campaign Consultants, provide writing, editing and production support for new Campaign materials for the duration of the five-year Campaign
• Coordinate the creation of media assets for Development & Alumni Relations stories, including by supporting the campus photographer and videographer.
• Actively seek out fresh and relevant story leads from within our extended campus community through collaboration with campus and external stakeholders
• Assist in developing and executing strategies for maximizing exposure of our multimedia storytelling assets across channels including social media, email and print. Provide support to partners in Development, Alumni Relations and other campus units for reaching a broad audience with these materials
• Contribute to the writing, editing, proofreading and distribution of institutional messaging to internal and external audiences
• Cultivate and build strong working relationships with partners across the campus, particularly partners in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, through the Communication & Marketing Liaison Model.
• Provide additional content creation and editorial support for other campus communication projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Required:
• A minimum of three years’ experience working in development/advancement communication, media relations, corporate communications, magazine editing, and/or journalism
• Demonstrated experience working as an editor of a magazine or similar publication, including experience coordinating a team of multimedia content creators (writers, designers, photographers, videographers, etc.)
• Fluency in social media content standards, trends and audience expectations across platforms
• Exceptional grammar and writing skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus and goodwill among colleagues and external partners with diverse viewpoints and priorities.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience with tools for email marketing and campaign creation
• Experience with digital Content Management Systems and related web publishing tools
• Ability to travel to and from the SUNY New Paltz campus
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as assigned
• Valid driver's license

Preferred:
• Experience and familiarity with the unique communication needs of an institution of higher education
• Some experience as a creator working in video, to support our editorial team with direction and guidance on video projects
• Experience working in or with a development, advancement and/or alumni relations office in an institution of higher education or comparable organization
