Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz, the leading regional public university in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley seeks candidates for the position of print assistant in the award-winning Office of Communication & Marketing (OCM). Reporting to the print & mail services manager in the OCM, this role is a critical opportunity for an experienced professional to help support the University’s integrated communication and marketing needs through a centralized Print Shop and Mail Services area that also serves faculty, staff and students from across the campus community. The print assistant will work closely with their supervisor and the digital production coordinator, along with experienced design staff, on producing print materials and other collateral that meet OCM’s high quality and brand standards. This will be accomplished utilizing an array of print equipment that includes high speed color and black & white production printers, as well as high quality wide format color inkjet equipment. The Shop is also well known across campus for providing exceptional customer service and expertise for client requests/needs.

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

• Handle intake of work requests for the Print Shop through multiple database platforms. Responsible for assistance to clients submitting work, ensuring forms are filled out correctly, jobs are logged into print platforms and estimates are produced.
• Answer phone and respond to walk-in clients with questions and provide direction or proper submission of projects. File jobs as needed for storage.
• Manage variable data mailings, including output, inserting and processing mailings according to U.S. Postal Service specifications for First Class and Standard (Bulk) mailings. Coordinate mailing list and paperwork processing from the campus’s Informational Technology Services.
• Assist the digital production coordinator with roles such as: scan jobs or save files for production and/or storage, assist staff in digital production (e.g., load paper, clear jams, etc.), including minor maintenance, as appropriate.
• Assign work to temporary service/work study students, as needed. Assist students with finishing/packaging of orders.
• Assist in bindery, as assigned. This may include cutting, folding, scoring, inserting, drilling, collating, booklet making, laminating and mounting, and any handwork required.
• Assist with print recharges to campus units/areas. Price completed jobs, print out invoices, mark jobs as delivered, post recharges to the appropriate account, perform weekly and monthly closeout.
• Assist Mail staff with processing/distributing letters and packages, as assigned. Depending on customer volume, assist Mail colleagues with various assignments to ensure efficient processing of mail and customer service.

Qualifications: Required:
• Minimum education of high school diploma or GED
• A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in print services at private sector and/or public service settings, and a demonstrated record of operating print and related equipment. Experience includes working with print professionals and related staff.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively on projects
• The ability to balance multiple projects and work under deadline pressures with relative ease
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort with learning Print Shop work platforms for serving clients
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to travel to and from the SUNY New Paltz campus

Preferred:
• Experience working with print/digital designers and other content creators
• Experience and familiarity with the unique communication needs of an institution of higher education
