Duties: The Department of Music at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes is looking to fill an open position in Music Therapy begin Fall semester of 2024. This position may be filled as either the three-year renewable Lecturer or tenure-track Assistant Professor depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses from freshmen through master’s level offerings. Candidates who bring a unique range of cultural experience and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply.

Specific Duties for Lecturer:
•Teach the equivalent of 5 courses per semester, though alternate arrangements may be made if the candidate is able to provide onsite supervision of music therapy practicum and fieldwork students

Specific Duties for Assistant Professor:
•Teach the equivalent of three courses per semester
•Maintain scholarly activities,
•Service responsibilities may include supervising fieldwork students, and interns, supervising culminating projects, recruiting, and advising Music Therapy majors, and assisting with special events
•Participation in departmental and college-wide committees
•Willingness to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research

Qualifications: Required qualifications for Lecturer:
•Master’s degree in music therapy
•Board Certification in Music Therapy for applicants in the United States, the equivalent from countries outside the United States
•Licensure as a Creative Arts Therapy or licensure eligible
•Minimum 5 years full-time (or the equivalent) clinical experience
•Strong musicianship

Additional Requirements for Assistant Professor:
•PhD or equivalent doctoral-level degree in music therapy or closely related discipline (ABD with completion of dissertation by date certain)
•Record of academic scholarship (research, writing, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications for both Lecturer and Assistant Professor:
•Experience working in an educational setting or with older adults
•Completion of training in one or more models of advanced music therapy practices (Creative Music Therapy/Nordoff-Robbins, Analytical Music Therapy/Priestley Model, Vocal Psychotherapy, etc.)
•Familiarity with online teaching
•Music Therapy faculty members are responsible for obtaining LCAT certification in order to be considered for tenure
