Duties: The School of Education at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz is pleased to announce a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Early Childhood Curriculum & Instruction to begin in the fall of 2024. The School of Education is proud to prepare caring, critical, and reflective professionals and is an outstanding provider of teacher education programs that support pre-service and in-service teachers to become agents of change in the field. Future educators are prepared to work with diverse learners of all ages and levels of ability. Through partnerships with disciplinary faculty in the sciences, arts, and humanities, as well as with local school districts, courses and programs provide a rich mixture of pedagogical theory, subject competency, and practical experiences, with an emphasis on clinical practice and real-life classroom application.

The Early Childhood/ Childhood Education (ECCE) program, currently the second largest major at SUNY New Paltz, offers three ECCE programs that prepare candidates to work with young learners from nursery through the sixth grade: The B-6 dual certification program, the Early Childhood Studies non-certification program, and the Early Childhood B-2, dual degree program.

Applicants with expertise in the areas of early childhood development and curriculum and instruction are invited to apply. This is a full-time, tenure track position beginning fall 2024, with a teaching load of three 3-credit courses (or equivalent) per semester. The successful candidate will work with students in all three of the undergraduate programs identified above. There will also be the opportunity to teach early childhood courses in the M.S.T and M.S.Ed. graduate programs. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of course topics including early childhood development, curriculum and instruction, and assessment and behavioral management for young children Birth-2nd grade. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in appropriate research and other scholarly activities, advise students, and provide service to the programs, school, university, and community.

Qualifications: Required:
• An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in early childhood education or a related field is required. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered
• Expertise in the areas of early childhood development and curriculum & instruction
• Experience teaching in early childhood education settings is required

Preferred:
• Demonstrated effectiveness in college teaching
• A record of research and scholarly achievements
• Successful experiences working with students and families in diverse settings
• Research and teaching skills related to professional experiences with high-needs or urban schools
• Hold or be eligible to hold New York State licensure in early childhood or elementary education
