Duties: Information Technology Services (ITS) at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for the position of Windows and Microsoft 365 Administrator. This is a full-time, on-site position as a member of the Systems and Networking team to support our Windows/Active Directory servers, and our Microsoft 365 environment. Expectations include staying up on new technologies, updates, and security issues and vulnerabilities, as well as remediating vulnerabilities. The position will also be automating deployments, updates, and configuration changes to our Windows servers and desktops via Group Policy and will provide tier 3 support for our Windows server environment.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a learning mindset to work in a team-oriented environment. We are dedicated to supporting learning opportunities to enhance initiatives related to software deployment and automation

Duties will include:

Windows System Administration: This position will be part of our team responsible for our Active Directory servers, and other related Windows servers. Tasks include general server administration tasks (updates, new builds, troubleshooting) as well as improving the architecture of our environment.

Microsoft 365 System Administration: This position will be part of our team managing our Microsoft 365 environment. This includes supporting the services that are on Office 365 (Mail, and Teams/SharePoint particularly) and the Azure Active Directory environment.

Security enhancements: The position will be working to enhance security on our Windows/Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments. This includes building secure server templates, using Group Policy and other tools to enhance security on existing security environments, and reviewing and responding to vulnerability and penetration test results.

Supporting our backup system (Veeam)

Qualifications: Required:

Two years of Windows server administration experience, including Active Directory.

Experience with Group Policy

Experience with one or more scripting languages (Python or PowerShell preferred)

Associates Degree or higher

Experience with secure design/configuration principles

Strong written and oral communication skills – including phone and email communication between customers/clients

Troubleshooting and technical problem-solving experience


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience with Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 applications (especially Teams and SharePoint online)

Experience with SIEM systems

Experience with VMWare or other Hypervisor technologies

Experience writing end-user documentation

Experience with MS SQL or other database servers
