Duties: Cluster diversity hire: 3 Assistant Professors (tenure-track) in Literature before 1800/Latinx Literature of the U.S./Creative Writing/Rhetoric and Composition.

The English Department at SUNY New Paltz invites applications for 3 tenure-track positions with specializations in one of the following areas: literature before 1800, creative writing with a focus upon poetry, Latinx literature of the United States, Rhetoric and Composition with an emphasis on public writing and cultural rhetorics.

The parameters of the cluster are conceived broadly as we seek to attract a range of diverse applicants with expertise in the current methodological and theoretical developments informing these fields and with research and teaching ability in one or more of these areas. The appointments will be at the level of assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022.

SUNY New Paltz is a competitive regional comprehensive university with a diverse student body, with students coming primarily from New York City, Long Island, and upstate New York. Currently 26% of our majors identify as Asian-Pacific, Black, Latinx, or multi-racial.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general education and introductory literature and writing courses as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The standard teaching load for this position is 18 credits per year. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research or creative projects leading to publication, effective teaching and mentoring, and service. Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or MFA or provide solid indication of imminent completion. Preference will be given to candidates who can provide strong evidence of active research and publication and who can demonstrate a record of, or potential for, excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
