Extensive, well-equipped studios and computer laboratories highlight the outstanding facilities for art students at New Paltz. Three major buildings house studio classrooms, production facilities, and computer labs in the Smiley Art Building. A new wireless computing lab with a classroom set of laptops is available, as well.

The studio spaces in the Art Department feature facilities for Ceramics, Metal, Printmaking, Photography, Painting & Drawing, Graphic Design, and Sculpture. Students also have the opportunity to work in the new Digital Design and Fabrication Center

In addition to these studio area facilities, the Art Education program maintains laboratories in the Smiley Art Building to explore teaching art and a mobile computer lab and resource center for the exclusive use of students in the program.

Students also have direct access to exhibitions and programs of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art. Additional resources include the Sojourner Truth Library, the largest public academic library in the Mid-Hudson region, and the Visual Resources of the Art History Department that houses slide reproductions of historical and contemporary art and architecture.
