Spring Freshmen and Transfer Checklist

√ File the FAFSA online.


√ New York State (NYS) residents should complete the TAP Grant application (our school code is 0925) and the New York State Excelsior Scholarship applications at hesc.ny.gov. 


√ Pay your deposit.


√ If you were selected for verification please visit my.newpaltz and check your email for information on your documentation requirements.


√ Official award notices are sent out via email.


√ Login to my.newpaltz to accept/decline your aid package. Follow the instructions from the email.


→If you accept a Student Loan then you must complete the following before school starts:

Login to StudentAid.gov with your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID and password. Then-

Complete Entrance Counseling and Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note).


→If accepting a Parent PLUS Loan, your parent must complete a separate credit check application. We recommend you read our PLUS page for more details. Complete the steps as soon as possible after May 1st. Here's how to apply:

Parent must login to StudentAid.gov with their parental Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID and password. Then-

Click on “Apply for a Parent PLUS Loan” (select 'State University College - New Paltz' from the list of schools).  If approved, then complete a Master Promissory Note.


√ Attend orientation. After you register for classes, follow these steps for your financial responsibility acknowledgement. If you will not be full-time (12 credits or more) then you must submit a part-time enrollment form to our office.

√ After orientation Student Accounts will email you a notification that your spring invoice (bill) is available.  Any aid you accepted will show as a deferral on your invoice.

√ Login to my.newpaltz and accept the charges on your invoice per the email from Student Accounts. View these instructions to accept your charges. You are responsible to pay any balance due by the due date on your individual invoice.


√ If a student's finalized financial aid exceeds their charges, Student Accounts will issue a refund for the amount of the overpayment per the following schedule.
