Taking more than 19 credits in a semester?

A typical undergraduate course load is 15 credits per semester. Students can take up to 19 credits in the fall and spring semesters without requesting changes to the imposed registration credit limit of 19 credits.

Excess credit requests can be made for the fall or spring semesters only.  Excess credit is not permitted in the winter or summer sessions. The maximum number of credits for summer session is 12 credits and winter session is 4 credits.

  • If the student's cumulative GPA is 3.0 or greater, the student is allowed to change the credit limit to 20 credits without special permission or forms; however, the student must contact Records & Registration to have the credit limit increased to 20. For an exception to the 20 credit limit, students must submit an excess credit form.
  • If the student's cumulative GPA is 2.99 or less, student student must submit an excess credit form.

Deadline and processing: The completed and approved form must be received at least 24 hours prior to the end of registration as listed on the Academic Calendar. An email notification will be sent to the college email account when additional credits can be added by the student.

Completed forms are submitted to Records & Registration.
