Peer Advisor

Peer Advisors provide holistic, strengths-based support to fellow students in the areas of advising, registration, and college-level academic skills. Peer Advisors will provide academic coaching services in the Center for Student Success, drop-in advising support in Wooster, and academic residence hall initiatives.


Requirements/Prerequisites: Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0; Must be in good standing: no judicial or academic dishonesty charges; Be a current SUNY New Paltz undergraduate student; Be relatable to students who are struggling; Be able to effectively handle students' issues and concerns; Reliability: Are you professional, punctual, and committed to helping fellow students succeed?; A respect for all people, diverse learners and learning styles, and a deep respect for maintaining student confidentiality and personal boundaries
Compensation: Students are paid hourly for scheduled sessions in the Center, Wooster, and select residence halls.

Peer Subject Tutor

Work with small groups of up to 5 students to help them develop strategies and tools to support learning in one of our offered courses.  Encourage critical thinking, academic independence, and the progression of the learning process through questioning.


Requirements/Prerequisites: Be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at SUNY New Paltz; Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at New Paltz; Have received at least a B+ in the course they wish to tutor
Compensation: Students are paid hourly for scheduled sessions at the Center.

Peer Writing Consultant

Work one-on-one with students at any stage of the writing process to help them build writing skills.  Whether brainstorming, outlining, or organizing a draft, peer writing consultants ask questions, suggest strategies, and introduce students to resources to help them grow and develop as writers.


Requirements/Prerequisites: Be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at SUNY New Paltz; Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at New Paltz; Have a B+ in an English or Writing Intensive course from New Paltz; Must be in good standing: no judicial or academic dishonesty charges; Have a strong interest and ability in writing, respect for individual differences, and a desire to help others grow; Satisfactory completion of tutor training course during first semester of employment.
Compensation: Students are paid hourly for scheduled sessions at the Center.
