Experience the power of writing this summer! The Hudson Valley Writing Project offers in-person and online programs to bring young people together to tell their stories, share their thoughts and ideas, and develop new friendships.

WE ARE WRITERS

Ages 7-9
In person at SUNY New Paltz

Curiosity is the best inspiration for writing! Together, we will explore all kinds of questions as we write, make art, and discover our favorite places on the college campus.

NATURE WRITERS & EXPLORERS
Ages 7-9
In person at the Environmental Collective at Vassar Barns

Join us as we explore pond, stream, forest and meadow habitats and write in and about nature. We’ll learn about ways we can create environments that support the needs of local plants and animals.

WRITING FOR FUN
Ages 10-12
In person at SUNY New Paltz

Inspiring writing prompts, art activities, and visits to the planetarium and campus museum will spark our imaginations and creativity as we learn about and practice the craft of writing.

GIRLS WITH SOMETHING TO SAY
Ages 10-12
In person at SUNY New Paltz

Join us to meet new friends, tell your stories, and find your voice in a supportive circle of girls. Learning from women in history and women in our lives, we will raise our voices and use our words to weigh in on the issues that are important to us. Trans and non-binary people are welcome.

BOYS ON THE MOVE
Ages 10-12
Huguenot Street, New Paltz

Do you love being outdoors? Join us for a week of exploration and adventure. We'll go on a scramble at Mohonk Preserve and explore other natural places to inspire our stories—humorous and serious, scary and fantastic. Trans and non-binary people are welcome.

WRITING & ROLE-PLAYING, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS
Ages 12-14

Together we will create characters and the worlds they live in, write mythic stories replete with magic and monsters, heroes and villains, then roll the dice and let the adventures (and the battles) begin!

FROM PLAYWRITING TO PERFORMANCE
Ages 12-14
In person at SUNY New Paltz, Parker Theatre

In this playwriting lab, bring your writing from the page to the stage! Working together with other writers and actors, you will craft characters, produce exciting scenes, and bring your own short plays to life.

WRITING SCI-FI & FANTASY
Ages 12-16
Online

Immerse yourself in a world of your own creation! Let your imagination loose and create a world in writing and art by developing characters, mapping out the places they live, and dreaming up an adventurous plot.

TEEN WRITERS INSTITUTE (Waitlist only)
Ages 13-17
In person at SUNY New Paltz

Working in a creative workshop setting, we will tell our stories through personal essays, fiction, and poetry. We'll share ideas and respond to each other's work as we polish our writing for an anthology.

MAKING OUR VOICES HEARD
Ages 13-17
In person at SUNY New Paltz

In this workshop for teenage girls, we will tell our stories and speak our truth. Taking inspiration from women writers and artists, we'll gain new perspectives on feminism, gender equality, and social justice. Trans and non-binary people are welcome.

WRITING THE COLLEGE ESSAY
Rising high school juniors & seniors

A good college essay communicates who you are and what you believe. Together we will study essays that work, brainstorm topics, and transform our ideas into solid drafts as we write and receive feedback in a relaxed, supportive setting.
