Center for Student Success

Writing Consultants

Austin

Hi, my name is Austin, and I'm a senior at SUNY New Paltz. I joined the English program here as soon as I was able to do so, and have always loved English and writing in general. I became a Writing Consultant to hopefully help students strengthen their writing practice, and develop their writing skills. I look forward to seeing you in the Center for Student Success!

P.S. Bring your favorite pen!

Madison, a sophomore English major with a passion for writing and talking about writing

Madison

Hello! My name is Madison (she/her/hers). I am a sophomore English major with a passion for writing and talking about writing! Accordingly, I am a Peer Writing Consultant at the Writers’ Studio. I am eager to engage writers in constructive, meaningful conversations that leave both of us with greater knowledge and understanding of writing and our processes. When I am not getting excited about syntax or the Oxford comma, I enjoy being outside, reading, and tending to my succulents. Here’s to a wonderful semester full of learning, collaboration, and growth!

Matt

Matt

Hey, I’m Matt (he/him/his). I’m a senior majoring in journalism and public relations with a minor in creative writing, and this is my second semester at the CSS. As a peer writing consultant, my main priority in any session is helping you develop strength in your own voice… but I’m a writer too, and watching someone take pride in writing a cool thing is why I love working here.

Patrick

Hey! My name’s Patrick, or Pat. My pronouns are he/him/his or they/them/theirs. I am a first-year graduate student majoring in English. I chose to become a writing consultant at the Center for Student Success because the experience will aid me in refining my skills as an aspiring professor, academic, and mentor, offering peer-to-peer support by exploring various pedagogical approaches to aiding students with your educational needs. I look forward to working with you. Fun facts about me: I generally like puns, particularly bad ones. I am a bit of a philomath, so don't hesitate to reach out to me if you want to say hello or to talk! I am also a writer and Goodreads author. I write poetry, short stories, and essays. :)

Rachel

Hi I'm Rachel! I'm in the SUNY New Paltz class of '19 and currently majoring in English Secondary Education with a minor in Religious Studies. I'm a Writing Consultant for the Writers’ Studio on campus! I came into this position with a passion for helping people where they struggle and excitement for seeing fellow students succeed. When I'm not tutoring I'm either in the TBA Improv Comedy Troop, writing, reading, or playing guitar. If you see me on campus don't be shy, say hi!

Shannon

Hi! My name is Shannon. I'm a marketing and management major going into my junior year. This will be my second year at the CSS as a Peer Writing Consultant and I'm excited to be a part of the team again. My favorite part of working at the Center is meeting new people and working with them to better their writing. When I see improvement it makes me as thrilled as the student! In the future I aspire to work for a social media company in New York City.

Shrien

Greetings! My name is Shrien (she/her/hers) and I am a junior, pursuing a double major in English and Digital Media production with a minor in sociology. I am a Peer Writing Consultant at the Center for Student Success. I joined the CSS because I love being an advocate for those around me, even if what I have to offer is small. I believe that with a friendly, fun approach, education and learning can be a positive experience. It takes time, patience, and most importantly a good mentor to lead you down the right path! I hope I can be that mentor for other students. In my spare time, I love to write, read, buy more books that I don't need, photograph strangers and watch documentaries. I hope to one day be working as an educator or at a nonprofit organization.

Uriah

Hello! My name is Uriah (he, him, his). I am a senior at SUNY New Paltz (English major, Black Studies minor) and am looking forward to graduating Spring 2019. At the Center for Student Success, I am a Writing Consultant because I love discussing all things pertaining to writing and helping others develop their thoughts. Besides being a writing consultant, I am also a designer, business owner, photographer, and spoken word artist. I pride myself in the work that I do and am looking forward to working with you in the Center for Student Success.

WIlliam

Hello! Welcome to the Center for Student Success! I am Will (They/Them/Theirs) and I'm a sophomore here at SUNY New Paltz. I'm double majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Political Science. I'm so excited to join the CSS as a peer writing consultant. I love reading and writing, (which you can probably guess from my majors!) and I'm looking forward to learning more about writing through working with people who are also looking to improve their skills. This will especially help me as I forge my career path in publishing (while of course continuing to write in my free time!
