The Stockhausen Project is a twelve-month, internet-based, collaborative project that explores arrangements of Stockhausen's work Tierkreis for different instrumental forces. Each movement will be arranged by Steven Roberts '18 (Contemporary Music Studies) and Alex Peh (Faculty Advisor) as part of the AYURE grant for faculty/student research, performed and recorded by faculty and students of the Department of Music at SUNY New Paltz, and videotaped by students in Digital Media Production. Additional support provided by Corey Mathes '16 (Digital Media Production) and Connor Milton '16 (Contemporary Music Studies). Each performance will be recorded and put online on the first day of the corresponding zodiac sign, thus providing a "musical horoscope" for each month. The full performance of Tierkreis will begin September 2016 and conclude in August 2017.

About Tierkreis
Tierkreis (Zodiac) is one of Stockhausen’s most popular works. It is a collection of twelve serially-based melodies, each titled after one of the zodiac signs in western Astrology. Each melody was conceived to be played by a music box as part of a larger theatrical piece called Musik im Bauch (Music in the Belly) scored for percussionists and music boxes. The twelve melodies together can be performed on any instrument or combination of instruments. Stockhausen instructs the performer to create variations of each melody by subtracting notes, altering dynamics, tempi, articulation and register.
