Psychological Counseling Center

Graduate Training Opportunities

The Psychological Counseling Center functions as a training site for the SUNY New Paltz graduate program in Mental Health Counseling, providing Internship opportunities. See the SUNY New Paltz Graduate School website.

PCC has a formal agreement with Marist College as well, to serve as a training site for its graduate program in Mental Health Counseling. PCC also has formal agreements with SUNY Albany and Adelphi University graduate social work (MSW) programs to serve as a clinical training site. In addition, PCC works with doctoral programs to accept candidates for pre- and post-doctoral internships. Applications for any of these programs should be made directly to the originating school's fieldwork/internship departments.

During the PCC internship experience, graduate trainees develop their assessment, interviewing, listening, and counseling intervention skills as they work with clients under the supervision of PCC senior staff. Weekly individual supervision meetings and PCC staff clinical meetings provide important supervisory forums for counselors-in-training. Trainees participate in the PCC's Outreach Programs, developing and providing psychoeducational workshops for the college community.

If you are a graduate student in counseling, social work, or a related field, and are interested in applying for a clinical training experience at the SUNY New Paltz PCC, call 845-257-2920 to make an appointment to speak with Director Gweneth Lloyd, D.S.W.
