Learn the history of the building's name

Capen Hall is a residence hall within the Parker complex, and is also the home to the Department of Residence Life offices. The Parker complex is composed of the traditional corridor style hallways with a single sex bathroom shared by all residents of the floor or house which is maintained by the Custodial Staff. Students who live in the corridor style buildings enjoy a lot of activity and interaction with the members of their house. Lounges can be found on each of the floors. Located in the basement of Capen Hall are two laundry rooms with washers and dryers, a bike rack, a computer lab, a recycling room, and the office for the Residence Hall Student Association and National Residence Hall Honorary. A main study lounge, the Department of Residence Life, vending machines, and a microwave oven may be found on the first floor. The second and third floors house T.V. lounges, and each floor has a kitchenette. Capen Hall offers its diverse student population a convenient campus location and facilities for physically challenged students.

History: The hall is named for Frank S. Capen, the second principal of New Paltz Normal School (1888-1899).
