The University Police Department (UPD) provides the campus with a full-time, around the clock police agency composed of fully sworn service-oriented, professional police officers committed to the concept of community policing. Community policing is a philosophy of becoming involved with the people we serve, building collaborative partnerships and working together as a team. We are an accredited agency through New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. This means that our policies and procedures adhere to the highest standards of law enforcement in the state.
Our mission includes our commitment to creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment that is conducive to the educational mission of the College. We do this through fair and impartial enforcement of the laws, crime prevention, safeguarding quality of life and providing assistance to victims of crime. We encourage prompt reporting of all crimes and suspicious activity to UPD.
UPD is committed to serving the campus community and contributing to a campus culture that is free of racism and discrimination of any kind. We stand against racism, and we are committed to fair and equitable policing. This commitment is evident in our ongoing training that focuses on Diversity and Inclusion, which includes training on Fair and Impartial Policing, LGBTQ+ Allies workshop, and Managing Bias.
