Our Why
SUNY New Paltz is pleased to join SUNY’s important Prison Education Program (PEP) initiative. Helping incarcerated individuals in New York achieve their educational goals and secure for themselves a successful future aligns well with our institutional ethos of social justice and with our institutional missions of fostering student success and being of value to the state of New York. SUNY OHEP
Program
In 2025 SUNY New Paltz PEP began working with Columbia Greene Community College’s (CGCC) Second Chance PELL program, to offer a baccalaureate program at Green Haven Correctional Facility. CGCC students who have completed the AAS: Individualized Studies as well as incarcerated individuals who have completed Associate degrees at other campuses are eligible to apply for the BA/BS: Sociology degree.
