NY Conference on Asian Studies 2012 > Lodging

Fall in New Paltz is beautiful and attracts many tourists, particularly on weekends. On September 29 on Saturday, the college will host another event called Parents’ Weekend. We thus urge you to make your reservations as soon as possible, since rooms will likely become unavailable as the conference date approaches. Please also note that we do not have rooms blocked for conference participant.

Hotels

New Paltz does not have large hotels that can accommodate many guests. There are a few motels located about 1-2 miles from the campus. If you come to New Paltz by bus, you can use a taxi (about $5) to get to these places.

B&Bs

Many accommodations in New Paltz and surrounding villages (Rosendale, Highland, High Falls) are small B&Bs.  They are too numerous to list here, but you can get information at the Community of New Paltz website (http://newpaltz.org/lodging.html) and New Paltz Chamber of Commerce website (http://www.newpaltzchamber.org/pages/Lodging.php). Many of these B&Bs are located a few miles away from the campus and would probably need a taxi ride. Because the conference will be held in a weekend of high season, some B&Bs may not accept booking for one night.

Other Options

If you can’t get accommodations in the New Paltz area, another possible option would be to stay at Poughkeepsie, about 10 miles away from New Paltz. Poughkeepsie is a city and has a few large hotels that you can easily find by looking on the Web. If you use Amtrak or Metro North, your train will arrive here.  A taxi ride from Poughkeepsie to New Paltz is about $ 20-25. There is a bus service (not frequent though) between Poughkeepsie Railway station and New Paltz. To see the bus schedule, please check http://www.co.ulster.ny.us/ucat/schedules/ulster-poughkeepsie-link.pdf
