Doreen Mazzye

Dr. Doreen Mazzye

Dr. Doreen Mazzye is a Literacy Professor, Childhood Program Coordinator, and Professional Development School Coordinator in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at State University of New York (SUNY) Oswego. She teaches literacy courses in the Master of Science in Teaching Residency and the Childhood Programs. Dr. Mazzye has fostered a strong university-school partnership with local school districts through the residency program and professional development work in literacy. She humbly serves The Reading League as a founding board member, a reading instructional coach for the Oswego County Literacy Initiative, a reading research curator, and syllabi refinement consultant. She is passionate about teaching pre-service and in-service teachers the Science of Reading so that all children will be effectively taught to read. Additionally, she is the parent of a student with Dyslexia, which perpetuated her ardent advocacy for the application of a structured literacy approach to teaching reading and writing. Before her time in higher education, Mazzye was also an inclusive classroom teacher in 3rd and 4th grades.

 

Sarah Holbrook

Sarah Holbrook

Sarah Holbrook is a Humanities Instructional Leader in the Middletown Enlarged City School District and Adjunct Professor of Literacy Education at SUNY New Paltz. She holds master’s degrees in both Special Education and Literacy Education, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administrative Education, and expects to receive her Ed.D. in Special Education, Literacy Instruction, & Dyslexia in 2026. She served in the New Paltz Central School District as a Specialized Reading Teacher, Literacy Coach and Team Leader in 2007-2022. She is LETRS and Orton-Gillingham trained.

 

Aiko Pletch

Aiko Pletch

Aiko Pletch has taught English as a second language for over 20 years. She holds a B.A. in History from McGill University and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Concordia University. Since joining the SUNY New Paltz faculty in 2011, Pletch has taught students with various language and skill levels enrolled in the Haggerty English Language Program, the Department of English, and the graduate Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program. She currently teaches in the Dual Diploma Program between SUNY New Paltz and Chongqing University of Education, preparing early childhood educators.

Dr. Jennifer Bremser

Dr. Jennifer Bremser is an Associate Professor and Associate Chairperson for the Department of Psychology at the SUNY Plattsburgh Branch Campus. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology, with a specialization in Behavioral Neuroscience and a C.A.S. in Autism from the University at Albany.

Professor Bremser previously held appointments at SUNY Alfred and the College Experience Program at the College of St. Rose, and was a special education consultant, with a specific focus on autism. She is a certified Yoga for the Special Child practitioner and has published a number of peer-reviewed articles looking at the parallels between autism and eating disorders and the benefits of Yoga for children with autism. Her work has been cited in various media outlets including, Psychology Today, Popular Science, and Scientific American.

Professor Bremser is currently working on her certification in Evidence Based Literacy Instruction and a Lumen Fellowship in Evidence Based Instruction. She is an Inclusion Delegate for SUNY Plattsburgh, a mother of two, and a passionate advocate for more equitable access to evidence-based reading instruction.
