Why collaborate with students?
Supervising students on research or creative projects brings many rewards – not just to students, but to faculty too. For example, students can provide faculty:
- help with carrying out a project
- project funding opportunities through the RSCA
- the fresh perspective of a non-expert, who can identify project issues that faculty might overlook
- a bridge to other faculty collaborators with whom the student also works
- a skill set that experienced faculty might lack (ex, social media, design principles)
- the pleasure of working with an enthused collaborator
- one-on-one time with students – a rare and enjoyable experience for many faculty
- satisfaction in nurturing a young scholar’s professional development
