Sociology Scholarship for Progressive Social Change

The SUNY New Paltz Department of Sociology is committed to fostering critical thought and a dedication to citizen engagement for the purposes of progressive social change. The scholarship, established in honor of former SUNY New Paltz Sociology professor Dr. Ken Skelton, follows in the tradition of the sociology department set by Dr. Skelton, Dr. Aaron Bindman and others who championed the principles, writings, and teachings of Dr. C. Wright Mills, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Dr. Patricia Hill Collins. The scholarship is designed to recognize and support SUNY New Paltz sociology majors in their sophomore, junior or senior year (who will be enrolled in Fall 2017) with demonstrated financial need who excel in their coursework through critical scholarship, superior academic performance, and outside of the classroom through exceptional participation in efforts to foster and advance equality and justice in our world.
