Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the role of Assistant to the Athletics Communication Director in the department of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation. The position is grant-funded for two years initially, with potential for renewal dependent upon budget approval. This role holds a 10-month obligation, and will assist the Senior Director of Athletics Communications, Marketing and Social Media with all aspects of athletics communications. Including game-day post, stats, updating rosters, writing stories for website, overseeing sports-specific beats, social media updates, department marketing activities, assistant with training and supervising student workers and etc. The position will also aid in the write up and releases of the Hall of Fame, Alumni Wall of Distinction, updating Leadership Wall recipients and all other annual end of the year assignments as directed by the Director of Athletics Communications, Marketing and Social Media.

Qualifications: Required:
• Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of athletics communications
• Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student–athletes, coaches and staff
• Ability to work weekends and maintain a flexible work schedule

Preferred:
• Strong writing, editing and interview skills (print and web); proficient in AP Style preferred
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, in particular Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign; Knowledge of other Adobe programs a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Knowledge of other Microsoft programs a plus
• Proficient in NCAA Genius Live Stats and StatCrew
• Proficient in Sidearm website technology
• Working knowledge of website management and multimedia production
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently as well as lead projects
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, parents, fans, and alumni
