Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the role of Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management. This position will be responsible for leading Facilities Management, which is comprised of over 180 staff covering 226 acres and over 2 million gross square feet of buildings. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, this position directly supervises the departments of Facilities Operations (includes Grounds, Automotive, Property Control, Custodial, Property Control, Central Heating Plant, Alterations, and Instrumentation Control), Design & Construction, Energy Management, Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety and Office of Emergency Management.

The successful candidate will be a strategic leader who can leverage resources to address competing priorities while spearheading the mission of Facilities Management to maintain, construct, renew, and operate a clean, attractive, safe, accessible, and sustainable physical environment. All efforts will work in furtherance of the campus’ Strategic Plan by providing customer-focused, efficient, high-quality facilities and services. The successful candidate must be committed to the campus’ values of access, integrity, diversity & inclusion, and sustainability and must strive to internalize these values within Facilities Management. Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

• Serve as part of the management team to the Vice President for Administration and Finance to advance campus initiatives and provide policy and planning advice
• Provide exemplary facilities, buildings, and grounds, as well as a high level of day-to-day customer service to students, faculty, and staff; ensuring timely and coordinated responses to facilities emergencies
• Accommodate and advance larger campus growth and improvement goals through strategic implementation of the Facilities Master Plan, Energy Master Plan, Sustainability Plan, and other long- and short-term initiatives
• Continuously improve and innovate process, documentation, implementation, and assessment of facilities-related responsibilities, including customer service, project delivery, work order management, capital and operating budget planning and management, staff hires, retention and training, design standards, etc. to ensure effective, safe, and efficient use of resources and technologies while providing excellent service to the campus constituents
• Serve as the principal liaison on capital and facilities matters with internal and external partners, including the State University Construction Fund (SUCF), Dormitory Authority (DASNY), other Federal, State and municipal entities, neighborhood and community groups
• Serve as the principal facilities spokesperson with municipal, neighborhood and other community groups
• Ensure campus capital and operating resources are being used efficiently, safely, and effectively in a manner that values sustainability and energy management and complies with reporting requirements of various oversight entities
• Conducting assessments using metrics to ensure the organization is operating efficiently and effectively
• A commitment to diversity and inclusion with the ability to create a department which is inclusive and accessible
• Innovation in the use of computer software and other computer-based tools, seeking and advancing continued efficiencies and productivity for facilities services gains
• Demonstrate a high degree of personal and professional integrity, a collaborative work approach, and a commitment to campus service

Qualifications: Required:
• A Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in facility management
• Proven record of leading and supervising large, distributed groups
• Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population

Preferred:
• Master's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
• Ten (10) years of facilities experience in higher education
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with multi-million-dollar budgets and financial management
• Experience with procurement and management of construction contracts
• Experience with reporting requirements of various oversight entities
• Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability
• Experience developing and monitoring metrics to ensure the organization is operating efficiently and effectively
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
• Knowledge of safe work practices, and the promotion of such practices in Facilities Management
