Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation in the department of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation. The Department of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation is looking for a dynamic, driven professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation. This 10-month (academic year) position will be responsible for assisting the Director of Wellness & Recreation with the development and implementation of a comprehensive recreational experience. They will assist in the management of operations for the Athletic Wellness Center (a 57,000 square foot building that houses two fitness areas and indoor track). The University also has a pool that is used for both competition and recreation, an auxiliary gym, multiple other workout spaces, and outdoor turf and grass fields. The assistant director will report directly to the Director of Wellness & Recreation. Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

• Coordinate all aspects of team and individual intramural leagues and tournaments including risk management, policies and procedures, scheduling, event management, and daily business operations
• Create and promote special events that support well-being and interest in recreational sports
• Maintain and update intramural sports participant manual and intramural sport rules
• Recommend intramural and special event budget and equipment needs to the Director of Wellness and Recreation
• Supervise Recreation Facilities as building supervisor
• Assist the Director in the daily operations of the Athletic and Wellness center, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating Athletic Wellness Center and intramural student staff
• Develop and implement a campus-wide marketing program to advertise and promote Wellness and Recreation events, programs, and updates
• Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and community stakeholders for intramural sports and special events, and to promote health and wellness
• Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk within Wellness & Recreation programming
• Assist Director with a formal assessment program for Wellness & Recreation office
• Involvement in strategic departmental and divisional initiatives

Qualifications: Required:
• Bachelor's degree
• Two (2) years experience organizing, planning, and implementing recreation and special events in a college or university setting
• Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student–athletes, coaches and staff
• Ability to work nights and weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs
• Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required

Preferred:
• Master's Degree
• Experience in training sports officials for various sports(basketball, soccer, volleyball, & etc.)
