Welcome to the SUNY New Paltz Department of Music Web site. We are a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the American Music Therapy Association. Please take a look at the information regarding our various programs and meet our faculty.

A part of the School of Fine & Performing Arts, the Department of Music has a large variety of liberal arts and professional courses to offer major and non-majors alike. Course descriptions can be found in the undergraduate catalog or the academics section of this Web site.

We have a full range of performing ensembles for students, including College-Youth Symphony, Symphonic Band, College-Community Chorale, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Collegium Musicum, and Chamber Jazz ensembles.

The department offers an extensive series of on-campus concerts involving faculty members, guest performers, students, and student ensembles.

Ensembles are open to non-majors as well as majors (acceptance in some ensembles requires an audition.)

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Music is to support and train students in the understanding and experience of the art of music. We strive to educate students by providing a rigorous undergraduate core program in music within the liberal arts context, and by offering a graduate program in preparation for professional certification in Music Therapy. We aspire to promote integrated student learning through a diversity of offerings within the department and across the campus. We contribute to the cultural life of the campus and surrounding community through public engagement and outreach.
