Disability-Based Accessible Housing Requests
Please be advised: All students must follow residence life processes for securing housing regardless of intent to apply for a housing accommodation. The housing accommodation process is a separate process.  For new & transfer students, approved housing accommodations will be applied once students are guaranteed on-campus housing.  Current students must engage in the room selection process as directed by the office of residence life. The DRC will work with the office of residence life to ensure that approved housing accommodations are applied accordingly.

Disability-Based Accessible Housing Requests

Students with documented disabilities may request necessary accessible housing arrangements for each academic year by submitting a Disability-Based Accessible Housing Application. The application is a two-part application:

  1. The student must complete and sign the Disability Based Housing Student Form
  2. A qualified clinician that has treated you for your disability must document the reason that you detailed in your letter of request by completing Disability Based Housing Clinician Form
    • A qualified clinician is defined as (including, but not limited to) a      licensed primary physician, psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker, mental health counselor, etc., who has provided treatment for the disability.
    • The Clinician must have an established Doctor/Patient relationship of with the student to establish a history and need for the accommodation.
    • By providing the Disability-Based Accessible Housing Verification Form to a qualified diagnostician/clinician(s), the student is granting permission for a member of the Accessible Housing Committee at SUNY New Paltz to contact and consult with that professional regarding the student’s need for the accommodation.
  3. Once both parts of the housing application are submitted, the student will be contacted via their New Paltz Outlook email address to schedule a brief virtual intake meeting as part of the interactive process.
  4. The Housing Committee will review the documentation and any additional information discussed during the intake meeting.
  5. Students will be notified of the Housing Review Committee's decision via their New Paltz Outlook email address.
