Summer Honors Program

Welcoming high academic achieving, rising high school seniors from under-represented student populations. Students will experience college first-hand during this week-long residential summer program. You will take courses in media, sustainability, liberal arts, and theatre.  Workshops will include college prep, financial literacy, and academic planning. You will also visit local attractions such as Minnewaska State Park Preserve, Hudson Valley Manufacturing Center, and Woodstock.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The program is designed for current High School Juniors (rising Seniors).

 

Students should have a cumulative, weighted GPA of 86 or above, submit a personal statement and a letter of recommendation. Students must have a passion for learning, as well as demonstrated leadership and community service.

 

Nominated students are sent a link via email to apply online.

 

Our Admission Team reviews students' applications. Students are contacted via email to confirm their acceptance status. It is important each student include an updated email address on their application and check it regularly.

 

While students are accepted on a rolling basis. We encourage students to apply by May 1. As spots are limited, we encourage students to apply at their earliest convenience.

 

Students participate in active learning led by faculty from the SUNY New Paltz campus. Topics include: Media, Sustainability, Theatre, and Black Studies. A variety of different workshops (Career Advisement and Financing College) and excursions (Woodstock, Minnewaska State Park and Millbrook Preserve) will be offered.

 

The Summer Honors Program is in late July.

 

There is no fee to apply. Tuition and board are provided to students for free. A fee of $300 is required to cover the cost of food and activities.

 

Yes, upon check-in, you will receive all the information you need for the week and will be escorted to your air-conditioned residence hall. You will eat in Peregrine Dining Hall, and we are a short walk to the Village of New Paltz.

 

Students who participate in the program will earn "Conditional Acceptance" to SUNY New Paltz. During your senior year, you are required to complete the SUNY Application or Common Application for admission and submit your college transcript, personal statement, and letter of recommendation.
