Graduation Checklist
  • Submit a fingerprint application on your NYS Education Dept. TEACH Account (for all candidates, but especially for Bachelor, MST, MAT, & TESOL). For directions on how to apply and have fingerprints done, check under the Fingerprints heading.

  • Take the Child Abuse Seminar online at www.childabuseworkshop.com or on campus by applying with the form available under the Workshops heading. If taken anywhere other than SUNY New Paltz, a copy of the certificate of completion must be brought to Records and Registration, HAB 19. This workshop must be documented on your transcripts in order to graduate.

  • Take the SAVE Seminar online at www.violenceworkshop.com or on campus by applying with the form available under the Workshops heading. If taken anywhere other than SUNY New Paltz, a copy of the certificate of completion must be brought to Records and Registration, HAB 19. This workshop must be documented on your transcripts in order to graduate.

  • Take the DASA workshop on campus by registering online at DASA NewPaltz.edu  If taken anywhere other than SUNY New Paltz, a copy of the certificate of completion must be brought to Records and Registration, HAB 19. This workshop must be documented on your transcripts in order to graduate.

  • Take the EAS Test (for Bachelor, MST, MAT, CAS & TESOL-if this is your first certification) Prepare with study materials, then register and choose a testing location and date at NYSTCE.

  • The Needs of Students with Autism Workshop needs to be completed for graduation and recommendation by Special Education/Students with Disabilities and for Speech & Language Disabilities teacher candidates only. You may take the workshop online at www.autismautism.com and enter the registration code NewPaltz9 for the reduced campus rate.

  • Take the corresponding CST (for Bachelor, MST, MAT for those receiving initial certification; many MSEDs require an additional CST, such as TESOL, Literacy, and Students with Disabilities) Prepare with study materials, then register and choose a testing location and date at NYSTCE.

  • Pass the edTPA (for Bachelor, MST, MAT, & TESOL-if this is your first certification) Register and access the handbook for the assessment at edTPA.com
  • Complete Degree application (Must be submitted by the first week of your last semester. See academic calendar for each semester's deadline.) Download appropriate application from the Records & Registration Web site. Check with your department for return procedures. Also check your curriculum plan, Liberal Arts major plan, and progress report (undergraduates only) or your Plan of Study (graduates only) to make sure all course work has been completed.

  • Apply for your teaching certificate during your last semester. For step-by-step directions, use the Student Application Information Sheet.

  • Students currently enrolled in SUNY New Paltz education programs can get assistance with the teacher certification process, including directions for certificate applications, on the TEACH system, program codes, fingerprint clearance, required NYSTCE testing, and mandatory training workshops. Detailed information on this can be found in "Certification Assistance."
