Eligibility

Transfer

In order to qualify for the New Paltz ACE program for Fall 2025, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)application.
    • Note:  Students from mixed status families are now eligible to apply for NYS financial aid without completing the FAFSA at https://www.hesc.ny.gov/altpath. Students may also reach out to ACE staff to learn more about their options to apply for NYS aid. 
  • Receive at least $1 of federal Pell or NYS grant aid (TAP or Excelsior). Students in the process of completing financial aid may be conditionally accepted into the program.
  • Be an incoming transfer student with an earned associate degree by the start of the term. Students with associate degrees from non-SUNY/CUNY schools are welcome to apply and will be reviewed for eligibility.
    • OR be an incoming transfer who is currently in an ASAP|ACE program and is on track to complete a bachelor's in four years. 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (NYS DREAM Act students also eligible)
  • Be eligible for in-state tuition.
  • Enroll full-time each semester in an ACE-approved degree program (minimum 30 credits per academic year)
  • Commit to the completion of an eligible major within two years.* Transfers with a degree must be able to complete their degree requirements within 60 credits to be eligible. All majors are currently eligible, however, eligibility for certain majors may be impacted if you have not completed prerequisite coursework at your prior college. 
    • *Students transferring from an ASAP|ACE program must be on track to complete their degree within a four-year time frame to be eligible. 
  • Adhere to all ACE program requirements.

Freshman

In order to qualify for the New Paltz ACE program for Fall 2025, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.
    • Note:  Students from mixed status families are now eligible to apply for NYS financial aid without completing the FAFSA at https://www.hesc.ny.gov/altpath. Students may also reach out to ASAP|ACE staff to learn more about their options to apply for NYS aid. 
  • Receive at least $1 of federal Pell or NYS grant aid (TAP or Excelsior). Students in the process of completing financial aid may be conditionally accepted into the program.
  • Be a newly accepted freshman student
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (NYS DREAM Act students also eligible)
  • Be eligible for in-state tuition.
  • Enroll full-time each semester in an ACE-approved degree program (minimum 30 credits per academic year)
  • Commit to the completion of an eligible major within four years. All majors are eligible; however, students must be able to realistically complete the degree within a four-year time frame.
  • Adhere to all ACE program requirements.
