President Donald P. Christian announces 2022 retirement after 12 years of leadership
During the remainder of his tenure, Christian’s focus will be to position SUNY New Paltz for continuing success in a dramatically changing higher education world and to set the stage for the next president’s entry and success

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as president and to have had such a long and rewarding tenure in this role"

Review SUNY guidelines on presidential searches
President Christian has asked administrators to initiate the procurement process for a search firm, and has asked the presiding officer of the faculty to initiate our elected/selected process for faculty membership

Barbara Lyman will remain at New Paltz as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs during the first year of the new president's tenure
Provost Lyman has provided outstanding leadership for the Division of Academic Affairs since 2019, and will contribute welcome stability during the transition

Service to non-profit organizations and other groups, engagement with business leaders and building strong relationships with the Village and Town of New Paltz

Growing academic programs and initiatives
New majors and degrees, program and institutional accreditation, support for stimulating campus events and more

Institutional focus on diversity, equity and inclusion
Leadership during the campus building renaming process, restructuring of our Office of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, ushering the College into a new era of student diversity and more

Sustainable mindset and practice
Creation of our Office of Campus Sustainability, installation of a state-of-the-art solar energy system, strengthening our campus ecosystem and more

Engagement and investment in the College and its students
Convocation, The Campaign for New Paltz, Hot Chocolate with the President and more

Transformational campus improvement and expansion
President Christian oversaw the most significant capital investment, renovations and building expansion in the College since the 1960s-70s, including seven major renovations and three new buildings

In the coming year, we have an opportunity to build on our momentum as we prepare for the next chapter in SUNY New Paltz’s history ...
