Reopening FAQ of the day

Is SUNY New Paltz prepared with plans to return to remote operations in the event in-person, on-campus operations cannot safely be sustained?
Yes. The College has developed a “Pause and Pivot” procedure which can be implemented if the College is so directed by the state’s Regional Control Room, SUNY, the Department of Health or other body.
The plan outlines steps to be taken to shut down in-person activities, reduce campus density and return to remote operations. These steps include:
  • Halting all in-person instruction, pivoting to remote delivery, and resuming in seven calendar days. In this event, the academic calendar would be adjusted to add back the lost instructional days at the end of the semester when we have already moved to remote instruction.
  • Issuing new directions to employees regarding telecommuting policies, equipment for home offices, and other issues pursuant to SUNY and state directives and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Continuing operation of facilities, maintenance, custodial and other essential functions to ensure the health and safety of any employees who must remain on campus.
  • Reverting all activities to virtual modality, with support from Instructional Technology Services.
The College's fall 2020 reopening plan is highly detailed and dense, and our corresponding list of FAQs runs to nearly 10,000 words (and counting!). In an effort to make this very important information more digestible for campus community members, we're highlighting questions and answers in this newsletter, one per day, as the fall semester approaches.
Please note: We are working to update and add FAQs as planning continues and this situation evolves. We will prioritize sharing the most current information in this space.

Student Capstones and Thesis Work

It was genuinely difficult to keep up with the staggering volume of galleries, exhibitions, original research and video presentations New Paltz students published at the end of the 2019-20 academic year. We'd like to take time this summer to spotlight individual projects and give this exceptional scholarship and creative work its due.
Today, the Graphic Design BFA Thesis Show asks: Would you subscribe to monthly art lessons delivered to your door?

Leah McKenna ’20 (Graphic Design)
"Research has proven that art education promotes stronger interpersonal skills as well as improved mental health. The Art Box is a monthly subscription box that aims to bring visually entertaining art lessons into the home. Each month, a new art topic will be explored in an interactive book, and each child will be provided with a sketchbook filled with activities, as well as flashcards that explore new key terms. By creating an affordable subscription box that promotes art education and history in an accessible and exciting package, the positive impact of art education can become more accessible to all."
