Reopening FAQ of the day
Will the academic calendar be different in fall 2020 from other fall semesters?
While classes will begin as scheduled on Monday, Aug. 24, the academic calendar and course schedule will change this fall to accommodate course adjustments and enable an early end to the semester.
The last day of in-person instruction will be Nov. 25, 2020, one week earlier than the originally scheduled last day of classes for fall 2020. This will allow the College to close campus during Thanksgiving break and reduce the possibility of reinfection from Thanksgiving travel.
No in-person class meetings (including for hybrid courses) will take place after Nov. 25. Synchronous online class sessions will be held on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. All final exams will be held remotely beginning Dec. 2.
While the revised academic calendar calls for in-person instruction to end ahead of schedule, the College will hold classes on Labor Day (Sept. 7) and during Fall Break (Oct. 12-13), to ensure that students receive the full, state-required 15 weeks of instruction.

The College's fall 2020 reopening plan is highly detailed and dense, and our corresponding list of FAQs runs more than 10,000 words (and counting!). In an effort to make this very important information more digestible for campus community members, we're highlighting questions and answers in this newsletter, one per day, as the fall semester approaches.
Please note: We are working to update and add FAQs as planning continues and this situation evolves. We will prioritize sharing the most current information in this space.
 
 
As Watershed Planning Coordinator for the Rondout Neversink Stream Program, alumna Haley Springston '17 (Geology) works to protect stream ecosystems throughout the Hudson Valley. Education is a key part of their work. In this video, Springston takes viewers on a hike through the Catskills and provides an easy-to-understand lesson about the region's geological history.

Student Capstones and Thesis Work
It was genuinely difficult to keep up with the staggering volume of galleries, exhibitions, original research and video presentations New Paltz students published at the end of the 2019-20 academic year. We'd like to take time this summer to spotlight individual projects and give this exceptional scholarship and creative work its due.

"The process of applying for citizenship requires years, if not decades, of waiting and has steep financial barriers to families fleeing hardships. April 24, 2020, marks the day that my father has been in this country for 27 years, 10 months, and 24 days. The process of being documented is long and does not follow a straight path. There are multiple applications that build up over time. These documents along with archive photos show testament to the legal application. My family now serves as validation for my father, alongside the millions of others who are in this country, living normal lives, and collecting these papers."
