Crunch into an apple & win a free apple dessert

You shop at farm markets.  You eat seasonally.  You are a member of a CSA.  You grow your own food… (Or at least you aspire to!)  So many of us love the Hudson Valley because of its vibrant culture and tradition of local food, farming, and gardening

Let’s grow that culture & consciousness here at SUNY New Paltz

Let’s show that SUNY New Paltz has the greatest locavore spirit of all the SUNY schools

by having the largest turnout of all the SUNY System at the inaugural…

(At 3:20, We’ll be snapping a photo of all of us chomping into an apple at the same time)

 Why join?

  • Show that SUNY New Paltz has the greatest locavore spirit of all the SUNY Schools.  Stonybrook, Albany, Buffalo State, Oneonta, Oswego, ESF, Cornell, Genesee Community College, and Morrisville State are all participating in the apple crunch, in addition to 8 private colleges in NYS.
  • Win a free local apple dessert.  Apple desserts will be awarded to the student organization, the class, and the office that turns out the most number of people to the Campus Crunch.  Scroll down for details.
  • Help us beat the world record for “most participants in an apple crunching event.”  We’re partnering with New York City and 16 other colleges and universities from across New York State to top over 1 million people crunch into an apple.
  • Eat a free Hudson Valley apple with your friends, classmates, and colleagues.
  • Learn the winners of the HV apple variety tasting.  Yesterday ~120 students, faculty and staff tasted the 7 HV apple varieties at the Student Union.  You can still taste and vote for your favorite of the 7 apple varieties tomorrow from 10:30 to 2:30 at the farm market (located inside the Lecture Center if it’s raining).  The winning apples will be featured at the Student Union and Hasbrouck Dining Hall as long as they are available.  Scroll down for more details.
  • Meet the farmers who grew the campus’s favorite apples.
  • Celebrate Food Day and the Hudson Valley Apple Harvest!

The Apple Dessert Incentive

The Farm-to-SUNY team will award one student organization/club, one distinct staff/faculty office or group, and one class that turns out the most people with an apple dessert (ie. apple crisp, apple pie, baked apples, etc. made with Hudson Valley apples) prepared by Sodexo’s Flavours catering team.  To qualify, have one representative from the student organization, office or class check in at the table where apples are being distributed to participants.  The representative will receive a form to fill out with the names of all the members of group that attended the event.  On the form, the representative will also indicate what type of apple dessert is preferred, time and location to serve the dessert (ie. student org meeting, staff, meeting, faculty meeting, class time, etc.), and the approximate number of eaters.  At the conclusion of the event, return the form to the same check-in table.
