Zameena Mejia ’15Communications Manager
Vera Institute of Justice

Zameena Mejia is a communications manager for the Vera Institute of Justice. In this role, she manages strategic communications to drive narrative and immigration policy change nationally for the Advancing Universal Representation Initiative, which seeks to establish legal representation for anyone facing deportation and diminish racial disparities among people affected by the U.S. immigration system.

Prior to joining Vera, Mejia was the National Domestic Workers Alliance's (NDWA) racial and gender justice press strategist. There, she helped organize worker-led advocacy events with President Biden as well as Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris; and other members of Congress. Prior to that, she served as communications director to New York State Senators Jessica Ramos and Brian Kavanagh. Mejia also moonlights as a beauty content creator and writer, with bylines in Forbes, CNBC and more. She is a proud graduate of the SUNY New Paltz Honors Program and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
