Rebecca Kassay '10Executive Producer, Host Be The Change with Rebecca Kassay
Trustee Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson

Rebecca Kassay is an elected official, community organizer, documentarian, and entrepreneur. Rebecca graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 2010 with an environmental studies major through SUNY New Paltz's contract major program, focusing on environmental and sociological sciences. She also minored in communications and media. In 2011, Kassay was hired as a program director by Avalon Park and Preserve, where she created and facilitated a youth environmental volunteer program for seven years. Inspired by the joy of community service, Kassay filmed an immersive docuseries about volunteerism, which is currently in post-production. Recognizing a lack of generational and environmental representation on the local council, she ran her first political campaign in 2020 and has held office as a Port Jefferson Village Trustee since, focusing on climate resilience and environmental planning. Kassay lives in her Long Island home-turned-bed-and-breakfast, where she, her husband, and her dog host travelers throughout the year.
