Union Vale Middle School

Lisa Roloson grew up in Ulster County, New York, and attended K-12 school in the Highland Central School District. Inspired by her science teachers and having a natural curiosity for all things biological, she attended Brandeis University as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology in 2004. After earning that degree, Roloson returned to NY to attend SUNY New Paltz to complete a Master of Science in adolescent education. During her 13 years as a middle school science teacher, Roloson was accepted into the first cohort of the New York State Master Teacher Program. During her tenure with the program, Roloson and her professional learning team launched the Mid-Hudson Girls Rock STEM Conference, promoting females in STEM careers to encourage STEM engagement in middle school girls.

While completing her four-year commitment to the Master Teacher Program, Lisa pursued her Certificate of Advanced Study in School Leadership at SUNY New Paltz. Since obtaining that degree, she has spent five years as an assistant principal and acting principal of Union Vale Middle School in the Arlington Central School District. Roloson is now the principal of the school.

In her role as a building leader, Roloson collaborates with all stakeholders to empower the importance of building community, celebrating successes, growing teacher leaders, and sustaining parent partnerships to ensure that all students and families have the resources and access to high-quality education and supports necessary to have a positive and productive educational experience. Roloson completed her doctorate at Manhattanville College in December 2022, with the successful defense of her dissertation “Discipline Reform: Middle School Teachers' Understanding and Perceptions of Restorative Justice Practices and Student Discipline.”
