Aylin Aykanat ’12

Aylin Aykanat, Ph.D. '12Postdoctoral Innovation Scholar
University of New Hampshire

Aylin Aykanat graduated with a Ph.D. in chemistry from Dartmouth College in June of 2021. Her research at Dartmouth focuses on addressing challenges in healthcare, environmental stewardship, and microelectronics through advances in materials chemistry. After graduation, she continued her academic career as a Postdoctoral Innovation Scholar (PDIS) under the mentorship of Professors Nathan Oldenhuis and Erik Berda. At University of New Hampshire, her research focuses on the use of DNA as a functional material through the design of supramolecular interactions and topology in hydrogels using DNA intercalators. In the future, she hopes to build the foundations of a research group at UNH where she will continue to design and explore the structure-property relationships of crystalline materials for biomedical applications and environmental remediation.

Aykanat graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a bachelor’s degree and double major in biology and chemistry. She participated in undergraduate research opportunities in both majors but found her true passion was in organic synthetic chemistry laboratory work.
