The Excel Program is a pilot for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Center for Student Success is piloting this program with Dr. Jennifer Waldo and Dr. Jeffrey Reinking in BIO 320: Genetics.
Excel consists of regularly scheduled, voluntary, out-of-class group study sessions for traditionally difficult courses. During these sessions, the Leader engages students through collaborative activities that provide more practice with challenging course material and concepts.
Excel is a free service offered to all students enrolled in a targeted course. All students are encouraged to attend Excel sessions. To get the most benefit, you should attend Excel early in the semester and continue coming regularly.
Who are the Excel Leaders?
The Excel Leader is a student who has taken the course they are assigned to lead and know what it takes to succeed. The Leader undergoes extensive training and supervision to effectively plan and implement Excel sessions. The Excel Leader attends class to keep up with the course content and models effective study skills, practices, and attitudes. The Excel Leader schedules and conducts group meetings each week at times convenient for the class.
