Current students can select to use their chosen/preferred name for contact. The chosen name does not change the legal name but is used in place of the legal name on Brightspace and class rosters in my.newpaltz.edu.
The chosen name will appear in my.newpaltz.edu in the "you are logged in as" message. Faculty will see the chosen name when using the following faculty services:
- Class rosters
- Mid-term evaluations
- Final grade submission
- Advisee listing
- Student transcript search page (not the transcript itself)
- ID card
- Name field in the college email address
Students opting to use a chosen name, will complete the Chosen Name Request form and bring a student ID to Records & Registration in Wooster Hall, room 115. If the student does not yet have a student ID, then a legal photo ID will need to be presented to elect the chosen name.
