Non-matriculated and Visiting Students

WHO IS A NON-MATRICULATED STUDENT?

  • Non-matriculated students take courses at SUNY New Paltz but have not enrolled in a degree program at New Paltz or have been declined enrollment at New Paltz.
  • Non-matriculated students may take courses upon availability and sometimes require permission by specific departments to enroll.
  • Non-matriculated students are prohibited from enrolling in internship, fieldwork or practicum courses.
  • Non-matriculated students are limited to 2 courses or 8 credits of undergraduate coursework.
  • Non-Matriculated students who wish to take graduate coursework must submit a transcript documenting 4-year degree and are limited to 9 credits total.

WHO IS A VISITING STUDENT?

  • Undergraduate students who are matriculated at another college and wish to take courses at SUNY New Paltz during the regular academic year are considered visiting students.
  • Visiting students remain matriculated at their home institution and are considered non-matriculated students at SUNY New Paltz
  • Visiting students may take courses upon availability and sometimes require permission by specific departments to enroll.
  • Visiting students are prohibited from enrolling in internship, fieldwork or practicum courses.
  • Visiting students may take up to one academic year of courses at SUNY New Paltz.
