SUNY New Paltz can prepare you for a career in any of the health-related professions. In addition to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Optometry and Podiatry, graduates of New Paltz go to Physician Assistant Programs, Physical Therapy Programs, Nursing School and Medical Technology Programs.
Students who attend New Paltz, but plan to pursue a career in one of the allied health fields, choose a major that is compatible with their interests and career goals in consultation with one of our pre-health academic advisors. For the most part, none of the allied health careers require a particular major. Most have requirements that can be met within a variety of different disciplines offered at New Paltz. New Paltz does not have majors, tracks or programs dedicated to any pre-health career.
Prospective students who are considering careers in Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy and as Physician Assistants are encouraged to research the opportunities available to them and the requirements necessary to pursue these careers. There are colleges and universities with dedicated programs in each of these fields. In some cases, if you already know that is your direction, you might be better served by attending a school which either offers a terminal degree in your field or has a dedicated preparatory program for graduate study.
Students at SUNY New Paltz considering one of the Allied Health Professions should consult the Pre-Health Advising Guides and the Online Resources page for more information on professional school requirements. You should also contact the appropriate pre-health advisor to discuss academic planning early in your college career:
