New Paltz Police arrest of taxi driver

To the New Paltz Campus Community;

The SUNY New Paltz University Police Department has just learned of the following Town of New Paltz Police Department arrest. It is being distributed campus-wide in the event there are additional victims in our community.

Arrested was; Ayman Aboueida, age 47 of Kingston, New York

Mr. Aboueida was arrested on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at about 5:09pm and charged as follows;

• One Count of Forcible Touching, a Class A Misdemeanor
• One Count of Attempted Forcible Touching, a Class B Misdemeanor
• One Count of Harassment 2nd as a Hate Crime, a Class B Misdemeanor

The New Paltz Police Department started an investigation on May 1st, 2017, after multiple victims came into their station to report being harassed and touched in a sexual manner by a specific cab driver. There were three separate incidents that were investigated. Through subsequent investigation, the cab driver was identified as Mr. Aboueida of Adam’s Taxi and he was interviewed at the New Paltz Police Station. The forcible touching is in regard to an incident that occurred on April 30th, 2017, at 1:30am. The attempted forcible touching is in regard to an incident that occurred on March 4th, at 1:30am. The harassment as a hate crime is in regard to an incident that occurred on February 4th, 2017 at 1:00am. All three incidents involved female college students and occurred in the Village of New Paltz, while inside a vehicle.

Mr. Aboueida was processed at the New Paltz Police Department and arraigned in the New Paltz Court before Town Justice James Bacon at 7:45pm. He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash / $50,000 bond to reappear on Tuesday May 23rd at 6pm.

The investigation is continuing and the New Paltz Police Department is requesting that any other potential victims contact the New Paltz Police Department Detective Division at 845-255-1357. All calls will be kept confidential.
