René Antrop-González was appointed as the dean of the School of Education, effective June 15, 2020.

As the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Education, Antrop-González mentors and supports department chairs; evaluates and develops faculty and recruit new faculty; supports and initiates regional partnerships; and coordinates with faculty to promote innovative programs responsive to the needs of the region. He also manages the School’s budget and engages in external fundraising, oversees accreditation procedures; and implements SUNY and State Education Department policies.

Antrop-González previously served as the dean of the School of Urban Education at Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and most recently served as the University’s director of graduate programs. In this leadership role, he collaborated with colleagues across the University to develop and revise policies and procedures and provided recommendations for strategies to enhance graduate program visibility and enrollments.

Prior to his tenure at Metropolitan State University, he was professor and Goizueta Foundation Chair in Education at Dalton State College (2013-2015). Antrop-González also held several positions within the Second Language Education area of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2001-2013), including professor of curriculum and instruction and program coordinator of second language education.

He holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in Spanish from the University of Central Florida; a master’s degree, magna cum laude, in Teaching English as a Second Language from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico; and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Bilingual Education from Pennsylvania State University.
