Letter from the editor

We are writing to share our deepest wishes for your health and safety during this challenging time. We also want to acknowledge the strength and resilience of our New Paltz alumni community.

This semester, the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic and its economic impact encouraged us to accelerate a conversation we’ve been having about how to better serve our readers.

As a result, the College has decided to offer the option to opt in or opt out of receiving print magazine issues.

When the College launched the New Paltz Magazine website, a complement to the bi-annual, 40-page printed magazine, in fall 2017, we intended to keep the New Paltz alumni community engaged with news and activities related to the College.

The website provides access to multimedia content such as videos, photo galleries, interactive graphics, active links to alumni accomplishments and more. These enhancements are accessible across digital platforms and supplement audience favorites like Class Notes, Seen & Heard and the alumni e-newsletter, Connect.

We are immensely proud of our printed biannual New Paltz Magazine, but it’s no surprise that media consumption habits have been changing for some time. While the printed stories we produce and the artwork we showcase is enjoyed by thousands, we encourage all of our readers to visit the magazine website and explore the additional content found there.

With all of this in mind, we invite our readers to consider their personal preference before opting in or out of the printed magazine. If you received this print issue you do not need to do anything to continue receiving the Magazine in the future. Your decisions will help us make better choices for our printing plans as we weigh budget restrictions with readership goals.

As the global landscape continues to change due to COVID-19, we hope this effort will help us engage with our New Paltz community in ways that always consider our connectedness, sustainability goals and the changing media landscape.

Stay safe,
