Duties: The Department of Teaching and Learning at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz seek applicants for the tenure-track position Assistant Professor in Science Education, to begin Fall 2020. The successful candidate will coordinate the graduate and undergraduate science education programs. The program coordinator will propose and guide program revisions, advise all science education students, teach science education courses, advise and supervise teaching candidates, work with public school colleagues, and participate in accreditation reviews. Occasionally the program coordinator may teach courses offered by the science department. The successful candidate will also pursue a program of scholarly research and publication and participate in the faculty governance system.
We seek candidates with the demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

Qualifications: Required:

An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in science education or a related field is required. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.


Demonstrated effectiveness in college teaching, along with a record of scholarship, is highly desirable. Experience teaching in adolescent education settings, interests and achievements in science education, and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and to advocate on behalf of candidates within public schools and across the SUNY campus is expected.
