Duties: Serve as Music Director of the SUNY New Paltz Symphonic Band and teach courses in wind or brass instruments, and music education; additional duties dependent upon the qualifications and interests of the applicant, the needs of the music program, and will include: administrative responsibilities related to large ensembles; instrumental music education; academic advising; and recruitment. The successful candidate is expected to: maintain a profile of appropriate research and creative activity; serve on departmental and college committees; establish and maintain active relationships with area ensemble directors; and work closely with applied music faculty to recruit students.
We seek candidates with the demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

Qualifications: Required:
Doctoral degree in music is required (PhD or DMA, ABD with firm completion date will be considered). A minimum of three years full-time (or the equivalent) teaching and conducting experience at the university, secondary and/or elementary level, strong musicianship, and a record of academic scholarship (research, writing, etc.). The successful candidate will possess potential for leadership, good interpersonal communication, collegiality, and a track record of recruiting for building an outstanding program.

The ability to teach Music History or to direct an early-music ensemble will be considered an advantage.
