Alynn Greene ’53: A Legacy Over 70 Years in the Making
When Alynn Greene arrived at SUNY New Paltz in 1949, there were fewer than 1,000 students. Her first-year housing was a converted gym where 14 women shared a room with double-decker cots and one small window. “But it was wonderful,” she says. “Everyone knew everyone.”
Alynn remembers curfews, movie nights and friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Those connections have drawn her back to nearly every five-year reunion. “It was a privilege to go there. I found a place where I belonged,” she says.
Her time at New Paltz sparked a lifelong career in education and a family legacy of teachers. Today, she is proud to be a member of the Tower Society, SUNY New Paltz’s planned giving society, helping future students find the same sense of purpose and community.
“I want someone else to have the experience I had,” she says. “It’s a no-brainer.”
