FALL #YOUAREWELCOMEHERE SCHOLARSHIP

SUNY New Paltz is proud to offer the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship, which recognizes promising international students with a vision for enhancing intercultural understanding. SUNY New Paltz will select two first-year undergraduate international students starting in Fall semesters to receive an annual, renewable scholarship to cover 50% of their tuition.

Who is Eligible?

  • First-year undergraduate international applicants of any major
    • An international applicant is an individual who holds citizenship in a country outside the United States and who does not also possess US citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Must meet the admissions criteria & adhere to the deadlines of SUNY New Paltz
  • Must satisfy the SUNY New Paltz English proficiency requirement
  • Must demonstrate financial resources for the remaining expenses not covered by the scholarship
  • Must have demonstrated interest & initiative in promoting intercultural learning & exchange

Apply to SUNY New Paltz

The basic requirement for admission is a high school degree and a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (or an 85% grade average or higher).

Checklist

  1. Online application through the Commonapp.org or applySUNY
  2. $50 application fee
  3. Official high school transcripts and mark sheets*
  4. Local and state board scores, if available
  5. Admission essay (personal statement)**
  6. 1 letter of recommendation***
  7. Proof of English language proficiency

*Full admission requires the submission of official transcripts and test scores. If you are admitted to the undergraduate program, you must request official copies of your transcripts and test scores be sent by courier to:

An official transcript (documentation of a student's permanent academic record including the courses that have been completed and the marks that have been received for those courses). If your school or national education department does not provide transcripts, please provide a certified record of the courses and examinations taken, this would include Government Examination certificates (such as GCSE-"O" Level, IGCSE, and “A" Level). You must submit official secondary/high school transcripts - in the original language and in a translated English version.

** The essay that is a required part of the SUNY Supplemental Application or the Common Application is acceptable. You may also use the SUNY International Applicant Essay form - form for your essay. You may choose any topic for your autobiographical essay.

*** A letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or school counselor.

How to Apply for the Scholarship

1. Submit a 500-1000 word essay describing your leadership skills in your school or community, and how you plan to continue applying your leadership skills at SUNY New Paltz.
2. If you are accepted to SUNY New Paltz, please take the following steps to apply for the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship:

  • Log into your application portal: Click Here! 
  • Click the International tab. 
  • Scroll to the center of the page and you will see “Upload #YouAreWelcome Essay”. 
  • Click “Choose File” and you will be prompted to upload your document. 
  • Click “Submit” and you have applied for the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship.

3. If awarded, students must confirm their enrollment at SUNY New Paltz by June 15 by paying the pre-enrollment deposit.

  • The scholarship applies to SUNY New Paltz tuition only. It does not cover other expenses such as university fees, room and board, books or supplies, etc. Students must demonstrate the ability to pay for the remaining expenses by submitting a bank statement from themselves or their sponsor.
  • This scholarship has no cash exchange value and is non-transferable.
