Sexual Assault, Sexual Violence & Sexual Harassment (Title IX)

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
-- Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972

SUNY New Paltz is a recipient of Federal financial assistance for education activities, and in accordance with the provisions of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, all of its education programs and activities are subject to the provisions of Title IX of that act that protect against discrimination on the basis of gender. Athletic programs are not the only component of academic life governed by Title IX. Title IX also applies to admissions, financial aid, academic matters, career services, counseling and medical services, and all other programs and activities available to students at SUNY New Paltz.
